The Arise team’s favourite things about Sheffield

We’re proud to call the steel city our home and absolutely love having an office located in one of its leafy suburbs, Nether Edge. What makes us so fond of Sheffield do you ask? Well, here are a few of our favourite things…

Greenest city in Europe

It’s true that Sheffield has the highest ratio of trees to people in all of the European cities—making the air fresh and the scenery picturesque! The Peak District National Park is just a short drive away and there’s plenty more open spaces scattered around the city to explore.

Ale capital of the world

With a whopping 57 breweries, Sheffield has become known as the real ale capital of the world. Like all locals, the team at Arise love a good post-work pint from time to time, and with plenty of excellent pubs on the doorstep like The Broadfield and The Brother’s Arms how can we possibly resist?

Friendly folk

There’s a real sense of community in Sheffield—there’s plenty of familiar faces wherever you go and even total strangers are happy to give you a helping hand if needed!

Built on 7 hills… just like Rome!

Believe it or not, Sheffield shares similarities with Rome, as both cities were built across 7 hills. Whilst sometimes that doesn’t make for the easiest of walks, the views across the city are most definitely worth it!

Gin glorious gin

While Sheffield is best known for ale, it supplies its fair share of gin too! Robin of Loxley and True North Brew are both local brewers who create quality gin. Many of Sheffield’s bars stock an expansive supply—Trippets Lounge Bar, The Devonshire and Shakespeare’s to name but a few.

Home to much loved independents

Sheffield is a thriving hub for independent businesses—there’s a hidden gem around just about every corner! Whether it’s hip vintage stores like Brag or quaint cafés such as Made By Jonty, we love them all for bringing their own, unique trade to the city.

An abundance of talent

The city has produced plenty of excellent musicians, artists and sports personalities over the years—from Jarvis Cocker to Jessica Ennis. Sheffield also proudly hosts the annual Snooker Championships, during which, you’re likely to spot some familiar faces hanging around the centre!

Home of Henderson’s Relish!

If you’re a native Sheffielder, you more than likely smother your food in a generous amount of Hendo's! We sure do. The condiment has become a local treasure and an absolute essential in every kitchen across the city.

Live music, everywhere!

If you’re a fan of live music, you don’t have to look far to get your fix. From local talent playing one of the many independent venues to bigger names putting on a show at the Leadmill, there’s always something to catch. We’ve even got our very own inner city festival, Tramlines!

The future is digital

It’s been said the the digital sector in Sheffield is ‘at the cusp of something big’, and we’re proud to be a part of it! We’ve watched it bloom from something small into a thriving sector and can’t wait to see how it develops over the coming years.
